St. Patrick's Day in Beer City USA: Asheville, North Carolina's Brew, Bike, and Run Fun

There's plenty to celebrate this St. Patrick's Day in the mountain paradise of Asheville, NC.
You might be in the mood for a sampling of Beer City USA's many microbrew stout beers, or maybe you want to get going with a guided city bike ride or a 4-mile run through the rolling countryside. This March, enjoy a luxury vacation in a Carolina Mornings mountain cabin rental and have your pick of activities - there'll be cheers all around when you make your spring vacation a blessed Kiss o' the Irish getaway!

Where to Go, What to Drink
Asheville is bubbling over with local beer! Jack of the Wood Pub downtown is an authentic Irish bar with live bluegrass music and their very own Green Man Imperial Stout. You can also visit the recently renovated 30-barrel Green Man Brewing Company facilities and taproom on Buxton Street. On St. Patrick's Day, Green Man will host an official grand opening for the new brewery and bottler. Tours will be offered on the hour through the day.

Asheville's newest microbrewery, Wicked Weed, specializes in high gravity, small batch beers, like the Dark Age Bourbon Stout, which is "a black as night ale" aged in Four Roses bourbon barrels for six months. You'll also find Lexington Avenue Brewery downtown, serving a rich Chocolate Stout brewed on-site. Asheville Brewing Company offers two locations to taste their ABC Scout Stout, a downtown bar on Coxe Avenue and the northside's restaurant and $3 movie theater (showing The Hobbit 3D on St. Patrick's Day!).

Perhaps the most well-known brews of Asheville are from Highland Brewery, where they welcome guests for tour and a taproom tasting of their Highland Black Mocha Stout. Just down the road in Black Mountain, you'll find Pisgah Brewing Company, also recently expanded into a good sized music venue and bar. The Pisgah Benton's Bacon Stout, available only on tap, is earning a far-reaching reputation for its smokey bacon and molasses flavor. Finally, Altamont Brewing Company on Haywood Street in West Asheville is celebrating their Two Year Annibeersary on St. Patrick's Day with live music and a parking lot party.

Bicycle Riders About Town
Get ready for the Bike of the Irish this St. Patrick's Day! Don your green gear and gather at Asheville City Hall at 1pm on Sunday to participate in a group bike tour of downtown and neighborhood greenways. All ages are welcome to join in this urban cycling exercise. And here's the best part: the event ends at The Wedge Brewery in the River Arts District. It's the perfect combination of fitness, sightseeing, and celebratory libation!

Run for a Cause (and a Beer!)
Oskar Blues is up and running in Brevard, NC! The Eastern hub of this Colorado brewery has been brewing at their impressive facility in North Carolina for just a few months. The brewery offers hourly tours throughout the weekend, and spending an afternoon at the brewpub gives you the opportunity to taste all of their delicious beers. There's even a bright red trolley that gives festive rides from Asheville to Brevard and back! On St. Patrick's Day, Oskar Blues is hosting a 4-mile road race, with proceeds benefiting the Brevard High School Track and Field Program. If you're ahead of the crowd, you could win a hand crafted pottery beer mug with the brewery logo.
