Asheville Wine and Food Festival
If you're looking for a delectable mountain getaway, Asheville is the place to visit! Livability.com gave Asheville the #4 spot on their "Top Ten Foodie Cities of 2014". Also, Forbes Travel Guide Blog featured Asheville as one of it's "Five Secret Foodie Cities."
Take a big bite out of the deliciousness of the area at the 6th annual Asheville Wine and Food Festival. This culinary treat starts August 21, 2014 and takes place downtown. It will be the culmination of several weeks of competition to crown the best of the best chefs in the area. Since July 1st, local chefs have been battling it out. The top four chefs will duke it out Iron-Chef style on August 23rd at the Grand Tasting.
In addition to the Grand Tasting, Asheville Wine and Food Fest is also hosting Sweet and Elixir. On Thursday night, August 21st, travel to another era. Elixir is a prohibition experience complete with a secret location! Locally renowned bartenders mix up some of their best concoctions and local distillers and bars will be at the event serving up samples. On Friday night, August 22rd, Sweet takes place at the Grove Arcade. It is a must-do for dessert lovers. Local bakers and chocolate makers prepare their sweetest dishes for guests to sample. To accompany this deliciousness, guests are invited to sip from local brews and distilled spirits.
Be close to the fun at Studio Lex. This wonderful loft is within walking distance to all of the events and is in the heart of downtown. Just steps from amazing shops, restaurants, and galleries, this is THE spot to soak up local culture. Sallie Lee Cottage is another great nearby option. Located in the beautiful Montford neighborhood it is less than a half mile to downtown. This cottage is a recipient of both the coveted Carraway Award of Merit from Preservation North Carolina and a Griffin Award from the Preservation Society of Asheville and Buncombe County. Believed to have been built in 1883, it is one of the oldest homes in Asheville, appearing on the earliest City Map in 1886. The lot was purchased and developed by Sallie Lee, the wife of successful pharmacist James Hardy Lee, who belongs to the prominent family that founded Lee Academy. It may also be of interest to history buffs to know that a son of James and Sallie Lee served as mayor of Asheville during World War II.
