Asheville Food & Wine Festival Returns in August!

Asheville Food and Wine: The Best of the Best

The Asheville Food and Wine Festival - our own foodtopia in the mountains - is scheduled for the third week of August and we are downright giddy with excitement! We have some of the best chefs in the country right here in our own mountain city and this is the premier venue for them to show off their creative skills.  For those of you who have yet to experience the fun, we've put together a little introduction to get you as excited as we are.

What it is

The Asheville Food and Wine Festival is a gastronomic festival of joy that is centered in Downtown Asheville.  Food lovers can rub shoulders with taste connoisseurs while sampling dishes created by the area’s top chefs, artisan food producers, craft brewers, and cocktail artists.  The August festival is split into three signature events, each one highlighting a specific aspect of our food culture (highlighted below).  Trust us - this is an event that you won’t want to miss!

August 20th: ELIXIR

The first night of the festival highlights the creations of our cocktail artists.  The city’s best mixologists are pitted against each other in a competition using all regionally produced spirits (yes, there will be Moonshine).  Attendees will be able to sample from both local and national distilleries while live music sets the backdrop.  The event is held in the Morris Hellenic Cultural Center.

August 21st: SWEET

The second night of the festival is all about the sweet life.  A smorgasbord of rich and sumptuous desserts, wines, cocktails and spirits will surround you as you take in the gorgeous works of edible art made by the area’s finest bakers and pastry chefs. Topping off the evening will be a chocolate competition... need we say more? The event is held at the Grove Arcade.

August 22nd: GRAND TASTING

The main event! The best of the best of Asheville’s epicurean scene will come together at the US Cellular Center to give cooking demonstrations, wine tastings, craft beer and spirit tastings, plenty of small competitions, and meet and greets featuring area farmers, chefs, bakers, authors, non-profit representatives, and regional crafters. And the icing on the cake - the WNC Chefs Challenge which pits two contestants in a competition for the title of Top Chef in WNC.
