Enjoying the Snow in the Blue Ridge Mountains

Enjoying the Snow in the Blue Ridge Mountains

Snow can be a fabled event here in the mountains of Western North Carolina - some winters we have plenty, others none at all. We at Carolina Mornings eagerly anticipate winter events because it means that we get to celebrate the weather in some truly fantastic ways. Read on for some suggestions on how to spend your snowy weekend in the mountains!

Head Out for a Hike

The mountains become a very special kind of beautiful when a soft dusting of snow covers them. Powdery snow drifts, icy streams, large snowflakes tumbling from overhead branches - this is the stuff of dreams!  We recommend getting out there to enjoy it firsthand, as often as possible. Though there are hundreds of options for beautiful winter trails - and goodness knows we have dozens of favorites - choosing one can sometimes be a bit overwhelming. For a simple-to-get-to location with dozens of trails from which to choose, head over to Bent Creek in West Asheville. Situated in the northern tip of the Pisgah Ranger District in the Pisgah National Forest, Bent Creek has trails suitable for every skill level. Just a short 15 minute drive from Downtown Asheville, it is one of the most convenient yet expansive areas for hiking.

Hit the Slopes

Just 40 minutes from Asheville is the Wolf Ridge Ski Resort - a premier facility for snow sports in the mountains! With 15 slopes ranging in difficulty and 3 ski lifts, Wolf Ridge offers loads of fun to families and friends looking to exult in the glory of the falling snow. We recommend devoting a full day to exploring the slopes and sipping some delicious, well earned hot chocolate in the lodge. Best of all, with every Carolina Mornings Rental, we offer one complimentary adult ski lift pass to help offset the cost of a day of fun. Click Here to learn more about our Mountain Discovery Pass!

Cozy Up in Style

Having a cozy home to return to is the best part of experiencing snow in the mountains. Luckily, Carolina Mornings has dozens of amazing rentals in and around the Asheville area - each one boasting its own unique beauty and charm. For a gorgeous 3 bedroom home located in surrounding Asheville, check out A Mountain Escapade. With a pet friendly policy, a fully equipped kitchen, a wood burning fireplace, and long range mountain views, this home has absolutely everything you need to fully enjoy the snow.
