Founded in 1921, the Southern Conference is the nation's fifth-oldest NCAA Division I collegiate athletic association. The Conference currently consists of 11 member schools in five states throughout the Southeast and sponsors 19 varsity sports and championships that produce participants for NCAA Division I Championships. The 11 schools of SoCon are Appalachian State University, The Citadel, Davidson College, Elon University, Furman University, Georgia Southern University, University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Samford University, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Western Carolina University, and Wofford College. Beginning March 7th, 2014, the men's championships will be held at the US Cellular Arena and the women's championships take over the court at UNC-A's Kimmel Arena.
