Tour de Falls: A Mother's Day Event
Mother's Day is fast approaching and we're so excited to celebrate all of the wonderful women in our lives! We've written before about some of our favorite Mother's Day activities, but we've just learned of another exciting option and we couldn't wait to share it with you! Over the weekend of May 7th and 8th, The Friends of Dupont State Forest have arranged for a 12-mile shuttled waterfall tour for all of those that want to take in the beauty, but may not be able to go on a wild hike through the woods. Read on for more information about this fantastic event!
What to Expect
This tour hits some of our favorite waters in the Dupont State Forest - Triple Falls, High Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and Lake Julia. It's a 12 mile tour and if you're especially drawn to any of the attractions, you can stick around for as long as you like - getting off the shuttle and sticking around for the next pick up is encouraged! Shuttles will run every 30 minutes from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM, and short hikes around the features are well marked. You'll learn about the area from the very knowledgeable volunteers guiding your trip and photo opportunities are aplenty (so remember to bring your camera)! We recommend bringing along a basket of snacks and beverages so that you can take advantage of that perfect picnic spot that you stumble upon on your day of exploring.
Where to Go
The tour pick-up spot is located near the High Falls access area at 89 Buck Forest Road in Cedar Mountain, NC. This is a first-come, first-serve event and donations are encouraged but not required. From Asheville, tour goers will want to take I-26 East to Exit 40, then take NC-280 toward Brevard. Make a Left at the Wal-Mart in Brevard (onto US-64) and travel 3.7 miles to the gas station in Penrose. From there, you'll turn right onto Crab Creek Road and continue on for 4.3 miles until making a Right onto DuPont Road. Travel 4 miles further, past Hooker Falls and High Falls access area, then turn Left at the "Parking for Tour de Falls" sign. Your adventure has begun!
