Asheville Dubbed Foodtopia: Discover the Many Flavors of WNC

Whatever cuisine whets your palate you'll find it in Asheville, North Carolina. Named by Southern Living magazine as one of 2013's "Tastiest Towns in the South," Asheville is known for everything from amazing food trucks to fine dining. Check out some of these wonderful local favorites and see why the press is calling Asheville the new "Foodtopia."

Driving Home Good Food
Food trucks are popping up all over Asheville. While most are never in one place for long, you can usually find at least one of Asheville's many food trucks at The Lot. Offering a variety of delicious fare, food trucks have a designated meeting spot for their aficionados: 51 Coxe Avenue, just south of downtown. The Smash Box Mobile Kitchen, Pho Ya Belly, Ursa Minor Coffee, and El Kimchi are often found at The Lot and are all bound to leave you with a happy belly before moving on.

Food Walking Adventure
Want to check out lots of amazing restaurant options but short on time?
Eating Asheville provides a wonderful way to explore six downtown restaurants in one day! The tours are held year round and include behind-the-scenes access, beverage pairings, and options for vegetarians. Discover some of the best local eateries while the tour guides help you enjoy this dining experience to the fullest.

City RetreatA City Retreat

Find your happy home away from home at City Retreat. This three-bedroom contemporary home in West Asheville is the perfect place to unwind and relax after a day tasting some of the best Asheville has to offer.

Vegetarian Bliss

PETA has called Asheville "America's Best Vegetarian-Friendly Small City," and with good reason. From
VegHeads, the vegetarian drive-thru restaurant in North Asheville, to Plant's upscale vegan cuisine, delicious options abound for vegetarians. Rosetta's Kitchen has a menu that includes many favorites like veggie tacos and sandwiches. And in the Montford area, you can dine like a vegetarian Carribean Queen (or King) at Nine Mile.

Foreign Fare
Travel to foreign lands by visiting one of Asheville's many exotic food restaurants.
Chai Pani is a wonderful Indian restaurant located downtown with lots of traditional Indian options. In the mood for tapas? Then check out Curate and their award-winning Spanish cuisine. Make sure to try their delicious sangrias! At Black Forest Restaurant in Arden, you can eat schnitzel and like you're in Deutschland. Then travel to South Asheville, where you can also travel to the far east at the deliciously popular Pon's Thai Cuisine, oddly located inside a corner gas station.

Away From It All
Just down the street from Pon's and a world away from your worries is Rainbow Ridge. With gorgeous views, a fenced-in, pet-friendly yard, and easy access to all of Asheville, this cabin is ideal for anyone who wants both city convenience and country seclusion.

Down Home Cookin'

The comforts of Southern cooking are served up with a side of something special here in Asheville. Homegrown focuses on creating delicious traditional foods with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The uber-popular Tupelo Honey has two locations locally - downtown and South Asheville. Expect to find great Southern dishes with a twist like goat cheese grits, southern fried chicken with mushroom masala, and vegan sauteed greens. Seven Sows Bourbon and Larder revamps southern favorites in very interesting and delectable ways - hush puppies with pimento cheese, chicken livers with quince jelly and pistachio, and pork chops with butter grits and mountain kale. Head over to either of the two 12 Bones locations and take a bite of the barbeque that locals claim to be the best in town. Take your pick of delicious ribs, pulled pork, brisket, and, of course, the very important southern sides - okra, grits, greens, and mac and cheese. 12 Bones is also a patriotic favorite - President Obama stops in every time he's in town.
