Thanksgiving in the Mountains
Giving thanks is easy enough when you're surrounded by the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains! Thanksgiving is a meaningful holiday for us Appalachian folk - not only is a day of reflection and gratitude for all the bounty that surrounds us, but it is the culmination of our Leaf Season and our Fall garden produce. Every year, over the long November weekend, our amazing community of culinary wizards create inviting menus of local fare with local flare. Whether you're looking to create a sumptuous meal in your own home away from home, or head out to one of our amazing local restaurants to taste their creations, Thanksgiving is the perfect holiday to spend in the mountains!
Grab a Bite
One of the most rewarding aspects of our mountain community is the fact that when you're here, you're home. That is never more true than during the Thanksgiving season, when our local restaurants create holiday worthy dishes for their patrons. Late Autumn is a bountiful time in the mountains - our season is long and the harvest of comforting foods like squash, cold-hardy greens, potatoes, and onions grace the plates in exciting and delicious combinations. No matter your dietary preferences, our award winning chefs have you covered. This year, Buffalo Nickel (located in West Asheville) is one of many restaurants that will offer a 3-course farm to table menu and it promises to be mouth watering! Set your reservations now to ensure a place at the table!
Perhaps the best part about staying in a vacation rental is having access to a fully equipped kitchen. Because of our extended grow season in the South, our Farmers Markets will still be open around Thanksgiving time, providing fresh, responsibly grown produce for your holiday vacation in the mountains. The West Asheville Tailgate Market runs on Tuesdays from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM, while the River Arts District (RAD) Farmer's Market runs on Wednesdays from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Produce, dairy, local meats, preserves, bakery items, and so much more grace the tables at these events, making them your go-to stop for local goods!
Whether you're planning on going out for your holiday meal or staying in to cook and get cozy with loved ones, Carolina Mornings has you covered on the home-away-from-home front! Deer Run, a delightful 1 bedroom home nestled in the mountains, is the epitome of cozy. The fully equipped kitchen has everything you need to create the perfect Thanksgiving spread, while the Satellite TV allows you to settle in and watch your favorite holiday programming. We particularly love enjoying the evening air from the covered front porch, and we think you will too! Or, for a pet-friendly home located just a short drive from Downtown Asheville, check out Evergreen Cabin in the Laurel Mountain Retreat collection of homes. Football fans love this home for its convenience, comfort, and cable TV with ESPN package. And hey, no matter which team wins on the big day, the 6-person hot tub will be there to help you relax at the end of the game!
