Shindig on the Green Returns to Asheville!

Shindig on the Green

Shindig on the Green - an Asheville tradition - begins its 49th year this month and the Carolina Mornings Team couldn't be more excited!  For those of you who are new to the town and unfamiliar with this amazing event, we’ve put together a small list of frequently asked question!

What is it?

The Shindig on the Green is a mountain tradition that features a stage show and informal jam sessions at Pack Square Park’s Roger McGuire Green.  It takes place every Saturday evening starting on June 27th this year. The fun sparks up around sundown (usually around 7:00PM) and runs until around 10:00PM.  It has been an annual event since 1967 and it features a variety of performances by The Stoney Creek Boys, Bluegrass and Old Time String Bands, Big Circle Mountain Dancers, Clog Dancers, Smooth Dancers, Ballad Singers, and more!

How Much Does It Cost?

Shindig on the Green is a totally FREE event!  It exists for the love of the area, its traditions and its people. That being said, it is kept alive and thriving by donations made by those who attend and enjoy. The Folk Heritage Committee (the group that puts on the event) is independently responsible for raising the funds necessary to annually produce the show, so any and all help that visitors and community members can give is deeply appreciated.

What Should I Bring?

A blanket, your dancing shoes, a good attitude, and a healthy appetite!  Concessions will be provided by Okie Dokies Smokehouse and The Hop Ice Cream Cafe.

What Shouldn’t I Bring?

Unfortunately, our four legged friends are not allowed in Pack Square Park.  Drinking is also prohibited, so load up on lemonade and get ready to have a classically good time celebrating the very traditions that make our corner of the state extraordinary!
