Labor Day Weekend in Asheville, NC: Part II
Last week, we wrote about some of our favorite activities for a holiday weekend. Since there is just so much to do in the area, we thought we would start this week off with Part II of our Labor Day Planning Guide! Some very special events are scheduled for that first weekend of September - read on for a brief introduction!
NC Apple Festival
The North Carolina Apple Festival a beloved annual street fair that takes place in downtown Hendersonville and it is a heap of fun! Every year, visitors and locals alike head over to the charming historic town to enjoy apple confections, fresh fruit, games, music, and other community events. This is a weekend long event - Friday, September 2nd to Sunday, September 4th, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. There is also a mini festival on Labor Day Monday beginning at 10:00 AM to running through until the end of the King Apple Parade in the afternoon.
Shindig on the Green
Shindig on the Green is a free festival that takes place in Downtown Asheville throughout the summer season. It promotes bluegrass and old time music and it is based in the center of town, at Pack Square Park. September 3rd will be the final Shindig of the year, so you definitely don't want to miss it! The party starts at 7:00 PM and runs until 10:00 PM. We recommend heading to downtown earlier in the evening to dine at one of our award winning restaurants. 2016 marks the 50th year of the Shindig on the Green event... Come celebrate Appalachian style!
