Memorial Day Weekend in Asheville: Part I, The Festivals
Memorial Day Weekend is fast approaching and Asheville is host to a great many special events and festivals! Visitors come from all over the country to enjoy our beautiful weather, our impressive landscape, and our family friendly events. Read on for more information about a few of the best events our small and vibrant mountain city is planning!
Memorial Day Concert and Ceremony
Memorial Day is about honoring the brave men and women who gave their lives while serving in the nation's armed forces, and on this day every year, our communities come together to celebrate them. We're grateful for the immense sacrifices that have been made for our safety, and we're proud to honor those that made them. A concert and ceremony in their honor will be held on Monday, May 29th in Pack Square Park. The event begins at 2:30 PM with the Army National Guard's Army Band, with the ceremony to follow. This event is free to attend.
Mountain Sports Festival
Mountain sports are at the heart of our culture and every year over Memorial Day Weekend, local businesses come together to create an event centered around them! The Mountain Sports Festival is a free event that spans the weekend of May 26th - May 28th. Pro and amateur athletes come together at Carrier Park in the River Arts District to test themselves and enjoy the great outdoors. Races and competitions are scheduled throughout the weekend, beginning with Cyclocross and Ultimate Frisbee. This is a family friendly event, so head over to RAD to enjoy the fun!
Garden Jubilee Festival
The Garden Jubilee Festival takes place in Hendersonville, NC over Memorial Day Weekend and it is a true delight! On Saturday the 27th and Sunday the 28th, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, over 200 vendors line the quaint and charming streets of beautiful Hendersonville to sell thousands of plants, arts, crafts, and garden supplies and accessories. There will be tons of local food and craft beverages, and gardening lectures and clinics for those that are looking to improve their craft! This festival covers 8 blocks of town and it is totally free - trust us, this is not an event to miss!
