A Mardi Gras Celebration in Asheville
Ah, the Asheville Mardi Gras Parade - where all the weird and wonderful aspects of our perfect mountain town come together and revel in absurdity, color, laughter, fun, food and drink! It's the perfect February event and one not to be missed by visitors or locals! Read on for an introduction to this amazing event!
The Mardi Gras parade is set for February 7th of this year, a Sunday, and it will be an all day event. Yes, February 7th is Superbowl Sunday - but who says we can't have more than one party on a weekend afternoon? The lineup party will be on Wall Street and will run from 11:00 AM to 3:04 PM. The parade proper will begin at 3:05 PM and will march down Wall Street, Battery Park Ave, Haywood St, and Page Avenue (by the Grove Arcade).
Oh, because it will be so much fun! There are so many "best parts" about Asheville - we end up celebrating dozens of times in any given year - but this is one of those reliably fun and carefree events. People of all ages and creeds show up to celebrate in the streets of Downtown Asheville. Local businesses will be decked out for the celebration as well, so come hungry, come thirsty, come interested, and stay excited!
What to Expect:
This year's theme is Saints vs. Sinners, and it is sure to be an absolute blast. The parade, led by this year's King and Queen, will be a display of feathers, sequins, colors, beads, sparkles, smiles, and absolutely wild costumes. This is a family friendly spectacle, so bring the kids, the dogs, the parents and enjoy the crazy and beautiful eccentricities of Asheville, NC! Oh, and be sure to make an appearance at the Mardi Gras Queens Ball in the Century Room and South Bar at Pack's Tavern - the event runs from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM!
Where to Stay:
Like all Asheville Events, this parade will be made even better by having a home away from home to return to after all of the fun.
