Living The Sweet Life in Asheville, NC

Asheville Sweets

It’s no secret that Asheville has become a foodie haven in the South. Our breakfasts, lunches, and dinners get a lot of press time, but what about our sweets? The Carolina Mornings Team is passionate about dessert, so we’ve highlighted a few of our favorite places to satisfy the sugar cravings that grip us oh, so often.

Old Europe

Old Europe is one of our favorite small bakeries in Asheville. Specializing in traditional European pastries, Old Europe has been satisfying our sweets cravings since 1994. The baking genius behind the menu hails from Hungary, where she began baking with her grandmother at the age of 3. Since then, her gift has continued to blossom and the community of Asheville has the privilege of tasting her creations. Perfectly brewed coffee beverages paired with expertly prepared desserts - a truly excellent combination for which we are eternally grateful!

Sunshine Sammies

Sunshine Sammies is one of the many food trucks that have recently begun gracing the streets of Asheville, and we are all better for it!  Established in 2013, Sunshine Sammies creates delectable ice cream sandwiches from enormous, homemade cookies and ice cream from The Hop - one of Asheville’s artisan ice cream shops. The solar powered cart can be found in the summer months on the corner of Patton Ave and Lexington in Downtown Asheville.  They also grace local festivals and events.

The Hop

The Hop is one of Asheville’s best artisan creameries - and for good reason!  They have a rotating menu of unique flavor combinations and you could easily visit every day and never have to try the same flavor twice. Ingredients are often sourced locally, and this being beer city means that the genius ice cream makers at The Hop have found a way to mix our two favorite summer treats - handcrafted ice cream and locally made brews!

Karen Donatelli

Karen Donatelli bakery is located in Downtown Asheville, just a few shops down from the Woolworth Walk. She creates exceptionally beautiful desserts and pastries paired with well made coffee beverages.  Perfect for special events or just for an extra special treat, the sweets within this small bakery will leave you feeling like you’ve just visited Europe.

This patisserie is a hidden Asheville gem. Located in the Cotton Mill studio in the River Arts District, it is the creation of Cynthia Pierce - a professional baker and pastry chef with years of experience working in NYC. Her husband, renowned potter and musician Akira Satake, shares the space and visitors will find themselves taken in with the breathtaking art in complement with the delectable and perfectly crafted sweets.

Stay Local

Staying local is the best way to experience the beauty of our mountain community. Carolina Mornings has dozens of rentals in and around the Asheville area - each one beautiful in its own unique way.
