In Love in the Mountains: Valentine's Day in Asheville

Valentine's Day in Asheville

Valentines Day is a little over a month away, and the romantics out there are already planning their mountain getaways. We at Carolina Mornings love this sweet holiday, so we put together a few suggestions for how to celebrate it in our beautiful mountain city! Read on for some ideas on how to celebrate all things love.

A Chocolate Tour
No treat symbolizes Valentine's Day more than chocolate, and luckily, chocolate is one of the things that Asheville does best! Chocolate lovers travel from far and wide to experience the alchemy of our chocolatiers. Consider the following tour route:

French Broad Chocolate Lounge, located in Pack Square, is the perfect first stop on your tour of sweets - try the sipping chocolate, it's heaven! The second stop on your tour will take you over to Broadway to taste the goods from Chocolate Gems, a locally owned and adventurous chocolate shop in the heart of downtown. The third tour stop is back up town a bit to The Chocolate Fetish on Haywood Street, where the entire concept of the chocolate bar is re-imagined. The fourth and final stop on your afternoon of chocolate goodness will be Kilwins on Battery Park - a timeless and classic confectionery where you can watch the magic happen!

A Romantic Hike
There are hundreds of hikes from which to choose in Western North Carolina, and honestly, with a landscape like ours, you can't go wrong with any of them. We particularly love long range mountain views and a nice picnic spot, so we recommend heading over to Max Patch in Hot Springs, NC. This hike is famous for it's vistas and for being a section of the Appalachian Trail. We suggesting bringing a basket of local goodies to enjoy from the top of the bald!

To get to Max Patch from Downtown Asheville, head west on I-40 to Exit 7. Take a right off of the exit onto Cold Springs Road and drive another 6.2 miles to SR-1182 (Max Patch Road). Turn left and drive 1.5 miles to the Max Patch parking area on the right. 4WD is strongly recommended in all seasons!

A Cozy Night In
Sometimes the best way to celebrate love is to just enjoy the company of your loved ones. When visiting a new city, staying in your own home away from home is key to really enjoying the area and what it has to offer. Carolina Mornings has dozens of gorgeous home from which to choose - each one unique and well appointed. For a beautiful 2 bedroom A-frame cabin in surrounding Asheville, check out Red Wolf. This cozy home is perfect for a romantic couples getaway - with a fully equipped kitchen, a partially open floor plan, and natural light pouring in through the floor-to-ceiling windows, ultimate comfort and relaxation is at your fingertips. Best of all, your four legged best friend can come too - the pet friendly policy and fenced in yard make this the perfect choice for Fido too!
