Firefly Gathering Returns!

The Firefly Gathering

The Firefly Gathering is fast approaching and the people of Asheville and surrounding towns couldn't be more excited!  For those who have yet to experience the fun, the Carolina Mornings Team has put together a short introduction to this amazing local event.

What It Is

The Firefly Gathering is one of the largest Earthskills events in the country - a gathering of individuals committed to serving the planet and living responsibly in the modern world. But above all else, it is an opportunity - an opportunity to learn primitive skills, to express yourself, to have fun, and to meet others who are just as passionate about catering to the earth. It is a learning event, but also a celebration of this planet - festival goers will find that all instructors at the event are passionate about what they do - they have a shared belief that everyone should have access to the skills showcased at the Gathering. Whether you want to learn to identify plants, weave, start a fire, start a garden, or build a camp, The Firefly Gathering will have an instructor present who is both qualified and eager to teach.

Where It Is

Firefly is held at Bell’s Cove - a stunning location situated about 25 minutes north of Asheville in Barnardsville, NC. Festival goers have access to a spring fed pond, 220 acres of the Pisgah National Forest, 10 miles of maintained trails and logging roads, and gorgeous camping spots.

When It Takes Place

The event is set to take place over the weekend of June 25th-28th.  The events begin on Thursday the 25th, and end in the early evening on Sunday the 28th. A wide range of classes will be offered over the course of the 4 days, with some popular events being repeated (for those of you who may wish to only attend one of the days!).

Where to Stay

Attendees to the Gathering can camp on site, but dogs are not allowed and camping is primitive. Carolina Mornings has dozens of rentals available in the area, many of which are just a short drive from Barnardsville. Promise Keeper Cottage - a 2 bedroom, 350 sq ft guest cottage situated on a wooded 45-acre property - is a wonderful home base for area adventures! With a spacious screen porch and a peaceful surrounding environment, Promise Keeper is the perfect home to which to return after a day of learning primitive skills!
