Celebrating The 4th of July in the Mountains

Celebrating The 4th of July in the Mountains
An Asheville 4th of July is a beautiful thing - the temperature is hot, the summer sky is beautiful, the people are friendly, and the fireworks are aplenty! Nearly every community in these mountains hosts some sort of event to celebrate the holiday, so no matter where in the area you find yourself, you're almost sure to stumble upon a party! A few events are on our radar as they've proven to be a hill of fun in previous years. Read on for more information!

Downtown Asheville Celebration
Downtown Asheville hosts a wonderful family event on the 4th in Pack Square Park. Hundreds of attendees - friends, families, visitors to the area - come together in the heart of Downtown to celebrate and have a good time. The event begins at 2:00 PM and the fireworks start popping at 9:30 PM. We recommend getting there early to set up your picnic, play some classic outdoor summer games, and peruse the local goods. Admission to this event is free!

South Asheville Fireworks
Lake Julian hosts a fantastic 4th of July event every year, so if you find yourself in the South Asheville area this year, be sure to head on over to Lake Julian Park to enjoy the fun! The fireworks begin at dark, but we recommend heading there early in the day to claim your spot and enjoy all the amenities of the park. Take advantage of the picnic tables, the grills, the playground, and the volleyball court - it is a party, after all!

Fireworks Hike
This event has become quite popular over the years, and for good reason! The day begins with an old fashioned watermelon cutting before hikers venture out to climb Sunset Mountain to watch the fireworks show from the ultimate vantage point. The hike to the top is rated as moderate and it takes about 45 minutes to complete. Once at the top, long range views and cool mountain air greet the tired but excited hikers. Attendees meet in the parking lot of Black Mountain Savings Bank at 6:00 PM on the 4th and are asked to bring along a picnic, plenty of water, a folding chair, a flashlight, and a poncho (just to be safe!). Registration for this event is required, so call (828) 669-9566 in advance to claim your spot!
