Carolina Mornings Spotlight: 3 Amazing Mountain Towns

Carolina Mornings Spotlight: 3 Amazing Mountain Towns

There are so many amazing draws to vacationing in Western North Carolina - thousands of acres of pristine forests, the rushing, clear rivers winding through our landscape, the seemingly endless opportunities for indoor and outdoor fun, and the vibrant, rich communities surrounding the larger city of Asheville. The latter is what we want to bring your attention to this week. Read on for an introduction to three of the most charming mountain towns in WNC!

Mars Hill, NC
Mars Hill is one of those towns that defies the passage of time. Located north of Asheville, this small University town encapsulates the quiet beauty of the mountains while still maintaining a bold personality and a strong sense of southern hospitality. Just a short 15 minute drive from the Scenic Wolf Community, Mars Hill offers its visitors an opportunity to experience the mountains as a local would. Independent shops and restaurants line the charming Main Street and the rich history of Mars Hill University provides a strong cultural backdrop. We recommend checking out the newly refurbished Mars Hill Theatre - tireless and persistent effort went into restoring this grand theatre to it's original 1930's splendor.

Sylva, NC
Sylva is a must visit for those looking to explore the area. Home to the most photographed court house in North Carolina, this town boasts a rich history and a really cool energy. Independent shops and restaurants line the main streets of the downtown area, and up-and-coming breweries bring beer aficionados from far and wide. One of our favorite things about Sylva is how accessible the surrounding landscape is from the heart of the town - just a 10 minute drive will bring you to a gorgeous tract of land called Pinnacle Park. A 3.4 mile one-way hike rewards you with a 5,000 foot peak and breathtaking long range views of Jackson County! We recommend visiting Innovation Brewing after you complete your hike to meet some locals and sample the goods!

Saluda, NC
Saluda is one of the most historically rich towns in Western North Carolina, and as such it is a must see for history buffs traveling to the area. Despite being a town with a population of just 700 residents, the picturesque Main Street brings tourists from around the country. Indeed, this has been a popular tourist town since the late 19th century... and since that time, it hasn't changed a whole lot! There are several popular hikes located nearby, so we suggest checking out Green River Gorge before venturing into Downtown to eat at one of the many amazing, independently owned restaurants!

Stay Local
Staying local puts you right in the center of the action, turning your mountain getaway into a full-fledged vacation to remember! Carolina Mornings has dozens of gorgeous rentals in and around the Asheville area, each one unique. For a home in the Scenic Wolf Community (just a short drive from Mars Hill!), check out Sky High.
