Asheville Beer Scene - Drink It Up!

Asheville has the distinction of having more breweries per capita than any other city in the US. With so many breweries and so little time, it can be somewhat daunting to know where to begin. Luckily, Carolina Mornings has done extensive research just for you!

Downtown Delectables

Downtown has so many delicious choices. Hi-Wire Brewing has a fun circus theme and their main attraction beers are exceptional. Their Hi-Pitch IPA is a west coast style IPA full-flavored and hoppy. Wicked Weed is a hot spot to dine and taste delicious beers - they have a wonderful patio for dining and people watching. Also, the downstairs tasting room is not to be missed. One of the newest breweries in town is One World Brewing. It is a small-batch, hand-crafted, nano-brewery that has some really interested brews . Another great restaurant/brewery downtown is Lexington Avenue Brewery (LAB). It is conveniently located around the corner from our fantastic loft, Studio Lex. Studio Lex puts you in the middle of the action and is the perfect place to be a part of it all. Asheville Brewery Company is an extremely popular local chain with a downtown location that is an ideal spot to grab a beer and a slice. Additionally, the Merrimon location is extremely kid-friendly with a great game room and a great dine-in movie theater.

South Slope Sips

While the south slope is still technically downtown, it has its own feel and it's own batch of great breweries. Green Man has been around since 1997 and this brewery has some fantastic beers including Harvester, a great seasonal German Marzen style beer. The taproom itself has a wonderful relaxed feel and a great covered outdoor patio area. Twin Leaf Brewery is owned by a husband and wife team that has a mutual dream to own a brewery. What they created is a wonderfully rustic and outdoorsy sort of brewery and some pretty great beers. Opened last summer and quickly becoming a local favorite, Burial Beer Co. does some wonderfully creative concoctions with frequently rotating taps. At any given time, you might find a chamomile saison next to a German lager or a donut stout beside a sweet potato porter.

Biltmore Brews

French Broad Brewing is a European-style production brewery that opened in 2001. Check out some great regional music Friday and Saturday nights on their little stage while sipping one of their many staple beers - the most popular being the Wee Heavy-er Scotch Ale. Located just across the street is a new addition to Biltmore Village, Catawba Brewing. Based in Morganton, Catawba recently opened this satellite tasting room in February of this year and plans on opening a new 7-barrel boutique brewery and tasting room later this year. With 11 beers currently on tap and a great open indoor outdoor seating area, Catawba is bringing more of what we all love to the Asheville area - Fantastic Beer.

Eastern Pints

Highland Brewery  is one of the oldest breweries in the area and offers some great beers. This brewery, located in East Asheville, is very family-friendly with a wonderful meadow out back to relax. On weekend nights, great bands take the stage. Patrons of all ages are invited to get to the dance floor and cut a rug. Further east, Pisgah Brewing in Black Mountain, is not only a great brewery but is also a great local music venue. With both an indoor and an outdoor stage, they have music almost every night of the week. Make sure to try their Homegrown Ale, a truly Carolina beer. It is made with 100% North Carolina ingredients. Lookout Brewing is one of the newest breweries in the area that is offering some classic, quality beers.

Stay nearby in Black Mountain at Black Bear Cabin. This beautiful 2-bedroom, 2-bath cabin is a great place to unwind. The nearby creek is great for exploring and the deck and hot tub are the best ways to relax after a day out on the town.

Wonderful, RAD, and West Asheville

The Wedge was made for sunny days. This brewery is located in the heart of the River Arts District and is a locals favorite. It gets crowded but it has plentiful outdoor seating and even offers outdoor cinema in summer months. Altamont serves its beer fresh from the serving tank and serves up live music most nights of the week. Oyster House Brewing started the brewery with a single ambition - to brew the perfect Oyster Stout. With both a lovely Oyster Stout and a Super Oyster Stout that weighs in at 10% ABV, plus several other great beer offerings as well as a superb menu with several oyster options, Oyster Brewery is a truly unique Brew House.
