Visiting Asheville is quickly becoming a must-do for families, adventure seekers and those just looking for a beautiful place to take a rest! We have some of the best food in the country, a vibrant local economy and a culture both colorful and eclectic. For those of you planning a trip, the Carolina Mornings Team has put together a small list of things you must know about our wonderful city!
1. Never a Dull Moment
Asheville has a bold personality! We love any excuse to celebrate – from music festivals to art expos, wine and food tastings to parades down the main drag. We never take a season off and we want you to be a part of all the fun! We believe that no matter where you’re from, you’re really an Ashevillean at heart – so come in the Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall! We just know you’ll have a good time.
2. Day Trips Are Rewarding
Our dear little city is full of excitement and jam packed with potential activities, but did you know that we’re surrounded by amazing towns with their own special draw? Here are a just a few to visit when you’re in the area.
Marshall, NC – Marshall is one of the area’s best kept secrets. Historic downtown is somewhat hidden off of the main road, but for those that venture off 25/70 to investigate, Marshall is a true dream. Zuma’s – a destination hot spot for cyclists in the Spring, Summer and Autumn – is open six days a week and offers some of the best coffee, tea, and baked goods in Western North Carolina. Sweet Monkey is a new and welcome addition – the owner is usually in and conversation with her is never dull. Her courageous and mouth-watering concoctions are simply to die for! Flow, the Junk Shop, and – when open – Lapland Books are some other amazing small businesses that help make Historic Downtown Marshall a truly special place to visit. Carolina Mornings has several incredible properties located within Marshall limits – any one of them is sure to take your breath away.
Hendersonville, NC – Hendersonville is probably best known for the apple orchards that hem in the quaint and historic downtown. Autumn is indeed a wonderful time to visit (ahh, the cider, the doughnuts, the pies!) but the rest of the year is just as charming. Dancing Bear Toys is a must see – no matter your age, mood, or personality, there is bound to be something in this wonderful toy shop to make you smile. After strolling and shopping, try an old fashioned malt in Mike’s On Main Street. And for the full Hendersonville experience, check out Living Waters - it’s a gorgeous property sure to feel like home!
Hot Springs, NC – Hot Springs is perfectly positioned along the French Broad River, making it a perfect summer destination for rafters, kayakers and those of you looking for the serenity that only a rushing river can give. The Appalachian Trail also runs right through, so hikers with great stories are frequently bumped into. Stop in the ArtiSun Gallery to see some local art on consignment – the owner has a great eye for local color. And for those of you looking to indulge in a little pampering, make an appointment to visit Hot Springs Resort and Spa where the naturally occurring hot mineral water is piped into luxurious Jacuzzi type hot tubs.
In addition to visiting great towns nearby, you'll also be rewarded by checking out our list of favorite scenic drives!
3. Our Weather, like our community, is eclectic.
Asheville weather is, to put it mildly, unpredictable. We’ve been known to have 80 degree days in February and 50 degree days in July (though admittedly, the latter is extremely rare). Pack for the cold, the mild and the downright hot and always bring an umbrella!
4. We take Southern Hospitality seriously.
We love where we live. Naturally, then, we feel strongly about sharing the unique traits that make our area so loveable. Visits to the area are encouraged, newcomers always welcome, and you can’t find a waitress, barista or bartender in this town that isn’t extolling the virtues of the mountains. For our part, we offer classic Southern Hospitality in the form of our dedicated and willing concierge department and our kind, always helpful Vacation Planners. If you have questions, we’ll find answers!
