Located in Pisgah National Forest in the Blue Ridge Mountains, El Oso (The Bear) gives you that "rustic mountain feel" without exactly roughing it! Now Under New Ownership!

Kick off your hiking boots or your snow shoes and relax to the peaceful sounds of the forest. Enjoy the fresh mountain air while rocking on the cabin's front porch, or curl up by the large stone fireplace and make S'mores. El Oso gives you the authentic woodsy experience, while providing a super comfortable place to stay. It's an absolutely private wonderland within a stone's throw of all kinds of excitement.

Drum up some friendly competition with El Oso's plethora of family games, including a full poker set, a professional dartboard, numerous board games, and a Nintendo64 gaming station, plus ping pong and foosball tables. A computer (iMac desktop) is available for internet access, and there's a comprehensive DVD library stocked with movies for both kids and adults. Cable TV is also available, with a second TV up in the loft. A fully-equipped kitchen has everything you'll need to cook homestyle meals.

In order to provide guests with the best in convenience and comfort, the cabin's new owners have given it a complete overhaul for both exterior maintenance and interior design. Enjoy brand new items such as the flat screen TV, iPod dock, deck furniture, grill, and linens. Additional improvements include motion-sensor lighting, a renovated kitchen, and a new hot water heater. The entire cabin has just been thoroughly cleaned from top to bottom!

During your El Oso vacation, you'll be treated to many memorable activities. In the winter months, Ski the Wolf - it's only a 20 minute walk to the base of the slopes. Try winter tubing, hike a snow-covered Appalachian Trail, or cross country ski from the cabin's front door. In warmer weather, get outdoors with whitewater rafting, world-class ziplining, horseback riding (stables nearby!), more hiking trails than one could count, fishing, swimming, biking, and tennis.

Keep an eye out for deer, fox, rabbits, and groundhogs that frequent the woods surrounding El Oso. Spend your days exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains with a hike on the nature trail just up the road that connects to the Appalachian Trail, or to the top of Big Bald Mountain, where you'll find one of the most spectacular views on the East Coast (four states can be seen from the peak!). The kids will love the outdoor adventures and mountain creeks, as well as swimming in the community pool and playing on the playground at the Wolf Laurel “Village,” a short walk from the front door. El Oso offers enough activities to keep everyone busy!

Mars Hill, a charming college town, is also a short drive away. Bring your discs -there are tournament quality Disc Golf Courses in both Asheville and Mars Hill. After a stay at El Oso, we apologize, you're gonna have a tough time telling your friends you were roughing it! Be sure to book early for the spring and summer seasons! Pets are always welcome!

*Four-wheel drive is recommended during the winter months due to the steep driveway, but you can always park in the village and walk up to the cabin (a 10 minute walk). This Asheville vacation rental is located in Mars Hill and is approximately 30 minutes to downtown Asheville.

Hiking on Site:

1) 1.3 miles up the mountain (on Wolf Laurel Rd) is the entrance to the well maintained two-mile Nature Trail. This eventually hooks up with the Appalachian Trail.

2) If you take Wolf Laurel Road all the way to the top, then turn left on Big Bald Road, that takes you on dirt roads to the highest point--and best views--in the area. The Appalachian Trail also runs right across the top of Big Bald Mountain.

Each reservation comes complete with our exclusive Mountain Discovery Pass, which now includes a Biltmore Estate pass -- in addition to seasonal activities such as ziplining, whitewater rafting, and skiing! This extremely valuable pass is a special gift from Carolina Mornings to our guests, and is not available anywhere else. Enjoy Asheville the way it is meant to be enjoyed, and let us spoil you with activities and the best customer service in Asheville!
