When Learning and Fun Collide: Asheville Museum of Science

Planning a Winter Getaway in Asheville? Worried about what to do because the snow never arrived? Fret not! Asheville boasts dozens of amazing no-snow-required activities that are sure to show you and your loved ones a grand time. The Asheville Museum of Science (AMOS) just opened its doors to the public and we're so excited about what this means for locals and visitors to the area. Read on for more information about this fantastic area resource and all around fun place to hang!

Where and What
AMOS is located in the heart of Downtown Asheville on Patton Avenue. Since it's exciting opening back in November of 2016, it's given Ashevilleans yet another reason to love science, technology, and the fascinating world around us. AMOS seeks to provide a full science experience - with exhibits focused on astronomy, geology, climate, ecology, paleontology, and more, this museum holds within its walls endless entertainment and profound knowledge about the beautiful and complicated world around us. Special events, educational programs, dynamic exhibitions, and thoughtful displays await you at this truly phenomenal museum.

Exciting Upcoming Events
There are three exciting exhibits coming soon to AMOS and we're over the moon with excitement!

The AMOS Mars Rover
The AMOS Mars Rover Exhibit will be a fascinating peek into the robotics technology that allows us to gather information from planet Mars. Modeled after 2nd generation Mars Rovers ("Spirit" and "Opportunity"), the AMOS Mars Rover was designed and built by Asheville locals over at Beatty Robotics.

Dinosaur Exhibit
In true Science Museum fashion, AMOS will have a Dinosaur Exhibit for the enthusiasts among us. Though few fossils have been found in Western North Carolina (we have a limited amount of sedimentary rock), there is some fossil evidence regarding the presence of dinosaurs in North Carolina (like the Appalachiosaurus!).

Colburn Hall of Minerals
The Colburn Hall of Minerals is an ode to The Colburn Earth Science Museum, which had a hand in the ultimate creation of the larger science project that we now call AMOS. Extensive collections of minerals from all over the world make up the displays and information about each stunning piece is provided.
