Veterans Day

Veterans Day in the Mountains

Veterans Day is quickly approaching and what better place to spend the holiday than in the vast and beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina? Early November is a stunning time of year to explore Southern Appalachia, so come on over to the Asheville area with the whole family and experience true beauty and repose.

What to Do
For us, Veterans Day is a day of reflection for the dedicated service men and women who continually give so much to and for our country. We celebrate their bravery and honor their sacrifices. And because this holiday is one of reflection and honor, we try to spend it with our families and loved ones. Simply walking around Asheville, peeking into the shops and tasting the amazing fare of our local restaurants becomes a full on celebration when we are with our loved ones. We recommend setting aside an afternoon to do just that - stroll, meander, taste, sip, laugh, and love with the people that matter most to you.

We also try to spend as much time on the trails as possible - hiking or biking with our community of people and marveling at the natural beauty that surrounds us. For those trying to stick a bit closer to Asheville, we recommend heading over to Bent Creek Experimental Forest. 10 miles of hiking and biking trails welcome you in to a day of exploring and it's just a short drive from the heart of Downtown Asheville. For those looking for a hike with a view, head north on the Blue Ridge Parkway until you come to the Craggy Gardens Visitor Center parking lot. You'll have several trails from which to choose - each one as stunning as the next.

Though we love the activities described above, and recommend them to visitors and locals alike, sometimes the best way to reflect and enjoy the company of our loved ones is to cozy up, cook great food, read great books, and lean into the joy that comes from simply being. Staying in a home away from home in the mountains is the best way to experience that joy. Carolina Mornings has dozens of stunning vacation rentals from which to choose - each one as unique as the next - and we're willing to bet that the perfect mountain home-base is just waiting to be discovered by you. The classic pot-bellied stove, wood burning cook stove, tasteful decor, and covered front porch provide everything you need to create a memorable weekend in the mountains!
