Note: The Asheville Outlet blog post was originally posted in April. The current blog post includes updates at the end of the article.
Asheville has great shopping and is about to get even more. Downtown offers some unique and ecletic shops. Biltmore Village has several upscale chain stores. Asheville Mall has many great shops but what has been lacking here is an outlet mall. The nearest outlet mall is currently about 50 miles away. Luckily, New England Development has set sights on the Biltmore Square Mall and designated it as the future sight of what will be the Asheville Outlets. Making Asheville even more of a fantastic shopping destination.
Located right off of the I-26, at Brevard Road, the Asheville Outlet mall promises to be the destination outlet mall for Western North Carolina. Slated to open in the Spring of 2015, the mall will have over 75 premium outlet stores in a 325,000 foot open air setting. While no stores have been announced, it is rumored that Bass Pro Shops will be part of the mall.
The outlet stores are going to be a welcome addition to Asheville, where we already have some stores in place at its future location. Head out the future Asheville Outlet Mall and check to the Dillard's Clearance Center. In addition to Dillard's, Southern Department store, Belk, and the discount movie cinema, Cinnebarre are open during the renovations. If you like unique one-of-kind or vintage apparel check out Downtown's many eclectic shops. The Asheville Mall is a great option for travelers and locals alike looking for the brands they know and love.
Update: The outlet mall will focus on major label brand stores. Additionally, the company is hoping to draw local favorites to the mall. They have been in contact with Asheville Independent Restaurant Association and Asheville Brewers Alliance. For dog lovers, there will be an area set aside for dog walking and a watering station for thirsty pups.
While it is expected that 75 stores will open, since the last post, Cinnebarre has closed and Belk is set to close by the end of January. Dillard’s Clearance Center and the Dollar Tree remain open through the transition. The outlet mall will create about 1300 new jobs for the area.
When completed, the mall will be an intregal part of the community. The mall is being designed to be reminiscent of the local architecture - combining an indoor and outdoor setting with historic charm and Asheville’s unique mountain style including local stone, stucco, shingle roofs, and open trusses. A beautiful spot for bargain shopping - it is bound to be a favorite spot for locals and tourists alike.
