Earlier this week we wrote about celebrating Thanksgiving in the mountains of Asheville, NC and because we're so excited for the upcoming holiday, we thought we would offer a Thanksgiving in Asheville: Part II! This post will cover some more awesome restaurants that are set to be open on the 26th as well as some of our absolute favorite hikes in the area - because what better way to show your thanks for the mountains than to actually get out there are explore them?
Roux is located in South Asheville in Biltmore Park and it is a real Asheville treasure. We love the location, the ambiance, and the fantastic staff. They will be offering a traditional Thanksgiving buffet complete with cranberry, dressing, and turkey from 1:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Gluten free options will be available!
Buffalo Nickel is one of West Asheville's best restaurants - which is saying quite a bit as West Asheville is home to some of the very best restaurants in Western North Carolina, let alone Asheville! Their farm to table fare is absolutely to die for and their beer selection is out of this world. Reservations will be accepted on Thanksgiving Day from 12:00 PM - 7:00 PM and the culinary wizards within will be serving a fixed 3-course menu.
North Carolina Arboretum
The NC Arboretum is an area treasure - not just because they promote environmental education, local art, and the community in general, but also because
they have 10 miles of well kept, beautiful, and fun trails for hiking - making an outdoor adventure accessible to anyone of any skill level. We recommend taking a stroll along the trails after dining at one of the above restaurants!
Craven Gap Trail
Craven Gap Trail is conveniently located about 15 minutes from Downtown, just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is rated as an easy hike and is considered super family friendly. Hikers can expect a mostly flat hike with some great views of the changing leaves. If you make it to the Tanbark Ridge Overlook, you'll get an amazing view of the mountains and valleys in the distance!
Promise Keeper Cottage is a lovely 1 bedroom cottage located on 45-acres of wooded property and it is perfect for couples traveling with or without their four legged best friend. Traveling to town to enjoy the creations of our amazing local chefs is easy as Promise Keeper Cottage is conveniently located just five miles from Mars Hill, NC and just 30 minutes from Asheville. The screen porch is great for unwinding, the Satellite TV guarantees that you can watch your favorite holiday programming, and the peaceful sounds of the mountains will instil a lasting sense of peace.
