photo + craft: An Asheville Event

photo + craft: An Asheville Event
Asheville is nationally known as a hotspot for artists and craftspeople, and the work that they produce and present in our fine city is proof of our creativity-centered mountain culture. Throughout the year, visitors and locals alike can look forward to a plethora of art shows and festivals taking over the streets of Downtown and the River Arts District and photo + craft is one of the many events that we eagerly anticipate. Read on for an introduction to this awesome event.

What It Is
photo + craft is an event presented to our community by the Craft Program at Warren Wilson College - one of several educational communities at the heart of our larger mountain community. The goal of the program is to advance craft and material arts through academics, work, and service within a community "committed to environmental responsibility, cross-cultural understanding, and the common good". Through this event, from March 31st to April 3rd, visitors and locals alike will have the opportunity to delve deeper into the works being nurtured within our communities.

What to Expect
Keynote Speakers will address the community on issues of Photojournalism and Documentary Photography, Craft, the role of art in our cultural and spiritual landscape, and more. Exhibitions showcasing local works will be on display in a dozen venues, and the opportunity to meet and discuss works with the artists will be available to those who attend the shows. You can expect to be wowed by the profound, touching, and beautiful works on display at our local venues, and to leave with a feeling of  global connectedness.

The Venues
The Altamont Theatre, Henco Gallery, Black Mountain College Museum + Craft Center, The Center for Craft, Creativity, and Design, and REVOLVE are just a view of the venues for viewing the works associated with this fantastic event. Downtown Asheville, Downtown Black Mountain, the campus of Warren Wilson, and the River Arts District will all be homes for the showcased art and just a brief stroll around these communities will lead to engagement with the work and interest in the programs.
