Moogfest Takes Over Downtown Asheville
Moogfest is an electronic celebration of sound. Named for former Asheville resident, Robert Moog, the inventor of the electronic synthesizer, Moogfest is an homage to the founding father of electronic music. This weekend-long festival takes place between April 23-27, 2014 throughout downtown Asheville.
Originally held in New York City in 2004, the festival moved to Asheville in 2010. Here it has grown and evolved into what is now being called a "Synthesis of Technology, Art, and Music". Musicians and music lovers alike converge on Asheville to delight in the weekend's events.
This year, the event includes daytime workshops, film screenings, and even a class with
Nile Rodgers. Another daytime highlight is an improv Moog synthesizer performance by a powerhouse team that consists of Nick Zinner from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Bradford Cox of Deerhunter, and LCD Soundsystem's Gavin Rusoom. The evenings of Moogfest promise an impressive line-up with something for everyone. Legendary, electronic pioneers Kraftwerk, the 1970s dance band CHIC, amazing spoken word artist Saul Williams, experimental multi-genre musician Flying Lotus and many other amazing talents.
