Memorial Day Weekend in the Mountains

Memorial Day Weekend in the Blue Ridge Mountains
Memorial Day Weekend is a weekend of community and togetherness here in the mountains. As we gather to remember those who gave their lives in the service of the United States, we celebrate their sacrifice and the lives that we have the privilege to lead because of their sacrifice. All across our beautiful corner of the state, communities gather to host festivals that promote the coming together of hundreds, sometimes thousands, of people. Read on for an introduction to a few of our favorite events.

Mountain Sports Festival
This three day festival brings over 15,000 visitors and competitors to Asheville over Memorial Day weekend. Professional and amateur athletes alike come from far and wide to compete in classic mountain sports. Spread along the French Broad River at Carrier Park, the MSF is a seriously fun rain-or-shine event. Best of all - it's totally free, thanks to the amazing Sponsors! This event takes place from 5 - 9:30 on Friday, 10 - 9:30 on Saturday, and from Noon - 6 on Sunday.

Trying to stay close to Asheville so that you can experience the full breadth of this event? Check out Hillside Charmer -  a 4 bedroom, pet friendly home located about 10 minutes to Downtown. You'll love the cozy comfort, the wooded privacy, and the fully equipped kitchen!

White Squirrel Festival
Downtown Brevard is unique for a great many reasons (waterfalls, anyone?), but perhaps the town's most interesting draw is the huge population of all-white squirrels. There are many origin stories for this fascinating population, and by attending the White Squirrel Festival, you can likely hear all of them in one afternoon (including the true one)! Amazing mountain music, local food, and Appalachian craft are at the heart of this festival. The street festival takes place on Saturday from 10 - 6, and on Sunday from Noon - 6. Admission to this event is free!

Staying nearby is key to enjoying a weekend in Brevard. For a stunning home with a high occupancy, check out Lake Serenity - located in Pisgah Forest, just a short drive to downtown Brevard. With 6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a private recreational lake, and multiple outdoor entertaining areas, Lake Serenity has everything you need to bring your Memorial Day Weekend to the next level of fun.

Garden Jubilee Festival
Ah, an event for the gardeners among us! Downtown Hendersonville is a beautiful mountain town with a kind and welcoming community at the heart of it. This 2 day festival (Saturday and Sunday), is ideal for those searching for the perfect plants for their spring, summer, and fall gardens. Experts will be hosting plant clinics to answer all of your many questions about growing, managing pests, and harvesting. 200 vendors will be spread throughout the historic downtown selling crafts, plants, and other assorted items to bring your garden to the next level. This event is free to attend.

Looking to stay in Hendersonville for Memorial Day Weekend? Check out Southern Hospitality - a 3 bedroom, pet friendly home situated about 20 minutes from Downtown Hendersonville. You'll absolutely love the mountain views, the outdoor entertainment area, and the fully equipped kitchen in this 3-story stunner.
