LAAFF Festival Returns for Labor Day Weekend!
Lexington Avenue Arts and Fun Festival (LAAFF)
Labor Day weekend is coming up ever so quickly and the Carolina Mornings Team is delighted about the activities that go hand in hand with the holiday! One of our favorites, LAAFF, is scheduled for September 6th this year and for those of you who have yet to experience the fun, we’ve put together a little cheat sheet to better acquaint you with this awesome festival!
What It Is
The LAAFF is a street festival that is as colorful and fun as the city of Asheville itself. It seeks to showcase the local creative flair that makes our city such a unique place. This year’s theme is "Urban Pollinators” - a concept pulled from those industrious honey makers that we love so dearly. The organizers explain that, like bees, we can produce more than we consume. As humans we accomplish this by encouraging creativity. By embracing our creative nature, we can create more effective contributions to preservation efforts, thus ensuring that there is comfort and prosperity for all. LAAFF is free to attend, so plan on spending the full day enjoying the Asheville energy!
LAAFF takes over three blocks of North Lexington Ave in downtown Asheville. From 11:00 AM - 9:00 PM, the streets will be alive with performers, music, local art, local food, local beer, and hundreds of festival goers celebrating the last bit of the summer of 2015.
What to Expect
Event attendees can expect above all else to be inspired! LAAFF seeks to be the catalyst for community building and creativity. To that end, attendees will see dozens of artists showcasing their work and plenty of booths encouraging the creation of your own art. There will also be three stages of music - rock & roll, funk, folk, ragtime, bluegrass, and world beats will be among the many genres represented at the event. Performers - ranging from vaudeville to hula hoopers, to fire dancers - will entertain you through the day.
Where to Stay
Carolina Mornings has dozens of vacation rentals in and around the Asheville area.
