Holidays in the Mountains

Holiday Wrap Up: Celebrating in the Mountains

With Thanksgiving behind us and our hearts full with the memories we made with our loved ones, we now look joyously ahead to the bulk of the holiday season in Asheville! Celebrating the season in the mountains is truly the first step to creating the perfect holiday - whether you're looking to head out into nature, cozy up in your own home away from home, or go out on the town to enjoy the festivities, Asheville has you covered for the 2016-2017 holiday season! Read on for a few suggestions on how to enjoy the season.

Chanukah
Every year in Asheville, the Chabad House hosts the hugely popular event, Chanukah Live! Created in 2006, this event celebrates the first night of the holiday with games, food, musical performances, and so much more. The night culminates with the presentation of The Giving Menorah - a menorah made of thousands of coins raised during the Holiday Giving Drive which will be donated to those in need in our beautiful community. This year's event is scheduled for Sunday, December 18th, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

Christmas
Christmas in Asheville brings thousands of visitors to our mountains every year, and for good reason! The Biltmore Estate is a hugely popular destination all year round, and most particularly over December 23rd, 24th, and 25th. The entire Estate is decked out in lights, wreathes, and holiday cheer, and visitors often feel like they've been transported to another time. We recommend visiting the Estate in the morning before moving back to Downtown Asheville to explore the many local shops. Then, because December in WNC is such a mild season, head up the Blue Ridge Parkway to find a hike!

New Year 2017
Hard to believe 2017 is so close to being upon us! No matter how you like to celebrate the holiday, Asheville is the perfect home base for any of your planned adventures. Looking for a party? Head into Downtown Asheville where you'll have the pick of the litter! Our dozens of restaurants and pubs will be celebrating in styles unique to the personality of each establishment. Prefer to spend the first day of the new year in the woods, surrounded by nature? Hundreds of hiking trails surround the city - take your pick!
