Holiday Celebrations in Asheville, North Carolina

Craving a high altitude getaway? Asheville gets a little brighter, a little sweeter, and a little more festive around the holidays. While there are a myriad of fun activities in the month of December, here is a list of our Top Five Favorite Holiday Celebrations.

1.
Christmas at the Biltmore Estate
A favorite spot any time of year, the majesty of the Biltmore Estate gets even more amazing during the holiday season. From gazing up at the 35-foot-tall Christmas tree in the grandiose Banquet Hall to spending time with Santa in Antler Village - the Biltmore Estate is definitely our favorite place to get into the holiday spirit, Victorian style. Stay with Carolina Mornings and you'll receive our exclusive Mountain Discovery Pass. For each night of your stay, you'll be treated to one admission ticket to the Biltmore Estate. The decor and celebrations at the estate are magical! For something extra special, consider the Candlelight Evening tour upgrade. It is a wonderful way to experience the splendor of holiday evenings by the glow of firelight. After exploring the estate, consider staying at the Biltmore Villa Hideaway. Just blocks away from the Biltmore Estate, this two-bedroom luxury condominium is located in historic Biltmore Village. The village is decorated with thousands of twinkling lights for the holidays, perfect for enjoying a festive evening stroll.

2. Setting the Stage for the Holidays
Step inside another world by attending one of the many theatrical performances around town. A Christmas Carol, the wonderful Charles Dickens tale, is being performed by theMontford Park Playersat the historic Masonic Temple from December 5th through December 22nd. Another adaptation of the story, Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol, is playing at theNorth Carolina Stage Company between December 11th and December 29th. Additionally, The Flat Rock Playhousehosts A Christmas Story from December 4th until December 22nd. It is based on the film of the same title and is sure to provide laughs for all. Also, on the less traditional side, on stage at the Asheville Community Theaterfrom December 19th through December 22nd, The Santaland Diaries is an irreverent, one-man show based on the essay by David Sedaris about working as an elf at a department store. Make it a date night and get in the holiday mood!

4. Poetic Holidays
Join storytellers and musicians in celebration of the holidays atConnemera - the home of poet Carl Sandburg in Flat Rock. Christmas is Connemara honors Carl Sandburg, folk music, and the natural beauty that is found in holiday traditions. This festival is scheduled every Saturday until December 28th.
