Event Watch: 2017 Tryon Block House Races

Event Watch: 2017 Tryon Block House Races

Equestrians, mark your calendars for April 15th, because the 2017 Tryon Block House Races have been scheduled to return for the 71st running! This historic event brings folks from far and wide, and this year is slated to be even more exciting because the Tryon Riding and Hunt Club has formed a partnership with the Tryon International Equestrian Center. Read on for more information about this amazing event!

What and Where
The Tryon Block House Steeplechase has come a long way from the early days of its inception, when it was held on farmland surrounding a pre-Revolutionary War trading post known as the Block House. More recently, it was held at The Foothills Nature Equestrian Center. This year, for the first of many races, it will be held on a new one-mile track located on 115 acres managed by the TIEC. The address for this new location is 6881 NC Highway 9, in Columbus, NC.

Through this new and exciting partnership, the Steeplechase will see another exciting development - namely, a competitive purse structure that will serve to attract more participants on both sides of the track. The April 15th race will have a total purse of $150,000 - a new high for the event.

This race is a tailgate event and entry is by the carload. To purchase parking space tickets, visit the Tryon International Equestrian Center website.
