Carolina Mornings Spotlight: Shakespeare in the Park!

Carolina Mornings Spotlight: Shakespeare in the Park!

Asheville, NC has a rich arts culture, and we're grateful for all of the many warm-season resources that are available to us. One of our absolute favorites, Shakespeare in the Park, put on by the Monford Park Players, is currently in full swing and trust us - this is a must-experience event! Read on for more information about this reoccurring event.

What and When
Shakespeare in the Park is an annual event that runs from May to December. The outdoor summer series take place at the Hazel Robinson Amphitheater in the Historic Montford Neighborhood. Every year, between three and five of Shakespeare's classic plays are performed for visitors and locals alike. This event has been going strong for 40 years, and runs completely off of donations! We like to bring a blanket, a picnic, maybe even a candle or two, to the Friday evening shows - as dusk sets in and the mood calms down, we find little else that we love more than enjoying a well executed show in a beautiful setting.

This is primarily a weekend series, with shows nearly every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evening all through the summer. 2017 will see the performance of such classics as The Taming of the Shrew, Troilus and Cressida, and MacBeth. For good measure, the troupe takes a brief sojourn from Shakespeare and performs Peter Pan from August 4th - September 2nd.
