Autumn Delight in the Mountains!

Enjoying the Late Autumn Season in the Mountains
Late Autumn in the mountains is one of our absolute favorite times of year. By the end of October, the afternoons are cooler, the nights are chillier, the leaves dance through the air on their fall to the ground, and apple cider donuts are aplenty! There are so many ways to enjoy the season, but we've highlighted a few of our favorites below!

Head over to Lake Lure
The color is at its peak vibrancy in the Lake Lure area by late October/early November, and the days are still warm enough to enjoy a paddle on the lake. We recommend heading over to experience the beauty of the mountains from the comfortable vantage point of a kayak, canoe, or paddle boat. There are several companies in the area that rent boats for visitors looking to relax and rejuvenate in the cool waters of Lake Lure, so treat yourself to a classic vacation activity! Hiking in the Panther Valley is also one of the best ways to experience Southern Appalachia, so bring a lunch and head to the woods to explore the natural beauty!

Enjoy a Wine Tasting
There are many wineries in the Western North Carolina region and all of them boast comfortable tasting rooms, balanced wines, and stunning views. Heading over to the Biltmore Estate is a great way to spend an afternoon, and the winery in Antler Village offers complimentary wine tastings to all visitors. We also recommend checking out Tryon Foothills Wine Country in Eastern Polk County. This area is considered the last stop for viewing the changing leaves, as they hit their peak around the beginning of November. Overmountain Vineyards is just one of many wineries in the area and not only do they offer delicious brews, but the outdoor area overlooks the stunning expanse of the vineyard!

Take a Hike
Hiking anywhere in Pisgah National Forest is sure to impress. Visitors travel to our corner of the state from all over the nation just to experience the beauty of our Temperate Rainforest. Late Autumn flowers bloom in the shade of old growth trees, paths are strewn with colorful fallen leaves, and long range mountain views are the reward after many a long hike. Just remember, the weather can change rapidly in the mountains - particularly at this late stage of the Fall season. Plan accordingly and lean into the season... there is nowhere on earth quite like the forests of Southern Appalachia!

Live Like a Local
Staying in your own home away from home is the best way to fully enjoy the area. Living like a local, even if for just a weekend, will make all the difference to your mountain vacation. Carolina Mornings has dozens of homes from which to choose - each one unique and beautiful. Jaisel's Cabin, located in Maggie Valley, is an excellent choice for families or couples traveling to the area for Leaf Season. Situated on a large Estate, this gorgeous 3 bedroom cabin boasts a fully equipped kitchen, a covered front porch, a wood burning fireplace, and so much more! You'll fall in love with evenings spent on the porch swing, watching the stars come out over the mountains.
