Asheville Spotlight: Sierra Nevada Brewery
Sierra Nevada Taproom and Restaurant
The Sierra Nevada Taproom and Restaurant is a booming springtime attraction for locals and visitors alike. With 400 seats, 23 beer taps and a menu that is based on the well beloved philosophy of locally grown, farm to table fare (check out their organic on-site garden!), the Mills River/ Asheville location is truly a feather in the brewery’s cap.
Come for a Tour
Sierra Nevada is committed to community education and as a testament to that, the brewhouse offers free tours on the hour every single afternoon. They run them in a classic first-come-first-serve style, so to ensure a spot at your desired time, book online. For 1.5 hours you’ll learn about the Sierra Nevada Process, the beverages that made the brewery successful, and the masterminds behind it all.
But don’t forget the environmental aspects of the brewery as well! During your visit, make sure to check out the sustainable practices that are helping set Sierra Nevada apart from the crowd. The brewery boasts thousands of solar panels and a rainwater collection system that knocks the socks off of environmental buffs both here and abroad.
Learn the History
The Mills River/Asheville location opened in the fall of 2014, but before we were blessed with the local site, Sierra Nevada operated out of Chico, California. When consumption of the brand became overwhelming for the California locale, the brains behind the operation decided that the most environmentally conscious thing to do would be to build an East Coast operation center.
Sierra Nevada continues to follow traditional brewing methods - their recipes stay simple and clean with just malted barley, hop flowers, brewers yeast, and water. Their attention to craft, wholesome ingredients comes out in the flavor and aroma of their delicious brews.
Stay for the Music
As we enter the season for patio dining, visitors and locals alike will be pleased to note that the brewery will be opening their live music venue this summer. Stay tuned to the Sierra Nevada Website for updates on upcoming performances!
