Apple Season in the Mountains Approaches!

Apple Season in the Mountains Approaches!

It's hard to believe that we're far enough into the late summer/ early fall season to start looking toward the apple trees with such high anticipation, but the time has indeed come! Apple Season in the mountains is a spectacular time to explore the area. There is a special, sweet scent to the air and apple confections are aplenty! If you've never experienced the glory of Western North Carolina during apple season, 2016 is your year. Read on for some suggestions on where to go!

Stepp's Hillcrest Orchard
Stepp's Hillcrest Orchard, located in Hendersonille, NC, is the real deal - a 4th generation working farm that offers the finest fruit, vegetables, and confections to visitors and one of our absolute favorite places to go pick apples. Head over with your sweetie, your family, or a larger group to learn about the area, the history, and the produce. There are dozens of locations that are just perfect for an afternoon picnic spot, and many visitors find their experience kicked up notch when they bring along a delicious lunch, a blanket, and a good book to read. We recommend saving room in your belly for some of their delicious apple cider paired with one of the many homemade confections for sale in the Country Market!

Justus Orchard
Justus Orchard is a 5th generation working farm located in Hendersonville, NC. They offer the chance to have a supreme U-Pick excursion into their lush and healthy apple orchards, blackberry bushes, and pumpkin patches. A full day of fun can be had a Justus Orchard - we recommend getting there early in the day to visit the ducks in the duck pond, followed by the barnyard animals, and capped off with ride for the kids on the Cow Train. After a morning of fun, stroll through the orchards and gather your supplies for fresh apple confections! Finally, a day at Justus Orchard simply wouldn't be complete without a visit to the Apple House and the Bakery where you can purchase honey, jellies and jams, apple cider, cider slushies, caramels, apple bread, and so much more!

Sky Top Orchard
Sky Top Orchard, located in Flat Rock, NC, is one of the best places at which to spend an early fall afternoon in the mountains. Not only do they have a truly amazing orchard of apple and other fruit trees, they step it up another notch by offering visitors some of the very best panoramic views in the area. Pack yourself a lunch, bring some bread for the ducks and geese at the orchard pond, and allow yourself a full day to explore the expansive grounds. The barnyard area is home to sheep, goats, chickens, turkeys, peacocks and more, while the Bamboo Forest provides plenty of opportunities for adventure! Oh, and did we mention that their apple cider donuts are out of this world delicious? They are and you simply must taste to believe!

Hendersonville is the epicenter of our apple activity and it is a gorgeous small mountain town in its own right.
