A Visitor's Guide to Touring Asheville: Part I

Part I: The Walking Tours

One of the best things about Asheville is that it’s large enough to present its visitors and residents with options, but small enough to tour on foot. We at Carolina Mornings are so proud of our small city’s culture and history that we decided to showcase a select few of the best tours offered.  What follows is the first of a 2 part feature in which we’ve highlighted the best of the best of the Asheville Walking Tours.

Asheville Food Tours offers visitors a two and a half hour guided tour of the city's edible treasures. Tour goers will visit seven restaurants which will serve up delicious samples of the best that the city has to offer, including artisan cheeses, sumptuous cuts of meat sourced from local farms, warm and comforting breads, delectable desserts, rich wine, and hand crafted local beer. And perhaps best of all, the tours offered by Asheville Food Tours present a unique opportunity to meet the dazzling chefs and storeowners that have helped Asheville along in its journey to become the vibrant urban community that it is today.

Tours are held rain or shine and a portion of every ticket sold is returned to local food related charities.

Brew-ed Brewery and History Walking Tours

Led by a certified Cicerone, the Brewery and History Walking Tour focuses on education, community, and the local economy. Tour goers will learn how beer is made, how to taste it, and what the brewing wizards of Asheville are doing better than anyone else. Special access to the breweries in Asheville is at the heart of this tour so expect to hear some fascinating stories behind some delicious beverages.

In between each of the brewery stops, tour goers will learn about the early days of Asheville, its architecture, and how it became the "Paris of the South”

Asheville by Foot

"The Insider” Walking Tour meets at the Vance Monument on Pack Square, right in the heart of Downtown Asheville.  From there, Asheville native Kevan Frazier will guide you on an exciting adventure through the city.  You’ll focus on the city’s rich history, gorgeous architecture and colorful culture.  Tour goers will have an insider’s access to the special hidden gems tucked into the nooks and crannies of our delightful town, all the while learning about the historical centerpieces that made Asheville one of the nation’s most unique cities.  Plus, in addition to a historical introduction, you’ll learn to spot some of the city’s newest and best boutiques, restaurants, bars, and breweries.

The Insider Walking Tour is a gentle 90-minute stroll through the heart of Downtown and spans a total of 1.9 miles.
