95TH ANNUAL CHEROKEE INDIAN FAIR: 2-6 October 2007. Cherokee Indian Fair Grounds in Cherokee, NC. This nearly century-old October celebration includes artwork, crafts, agricultural items and traditional food items made by local artisans. FOREST FESTIVAL DAY and INTERCOLLEGIATE WOODSMEN'S MEET: 6 October 2007. Cradle of Forestry. More than 50 traditional craftsmen, exhibitors and entertainers gather at the Cradle of Forestry to celebrate our forests and forest heritage. Highlights include: traditional mountain music, wood carvers, weavers, a quilter, a potter, blacksmith, a toy maker, and a Woodsmen's Meet--an old-time lumberjack competition. "COLOR ME CURIOUS" GUIDED HIKE: 13 October 2007. Chimney Rock Park. 9–10:30am. How and why do leaves change color? What colors are particular to which trees? These and other fall color questions are explored in this woodland walk. "FALL MIGRATION" GUIDED BIRD WALK: 14 October 2007. Chimney Rock Park. The 2007 "Simon Says" Series of Guided Bird Walks continues. This weekend is usually the peak of the Broad-winged Hawk migration. Hickory Nut Gorge is the annual stop-over for many winged visitors making their way south. Mixed flocks of tanagers, warblers and vireos move through the Gorge on their journey south. $19 includes adult Park admission, $8 for ages 6-15; $3 for Annual Passholders, free for Grady's Kids Club Members. THE LEGEND OF TOMMY HODGES: 19-27 October 2007. Cradle of Forestry. The Mystery that ages over time becomes a legend, and a legend grows in the telling... It was Halloween night in 1906 when one of the students from the Biltmore Forest School disappeared. His name was Tommy Hodges. The man with the gun was Old Man Lindsey... The Cradle of Forestry historic site will put on this outdoor drama about the first forestry school in America on October 19, 20, 26, and 27 with shows at 6:30 p.m., 7:45 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Reservations are required as space for each show is limited.
