November 2007 recommended events

"OLD GROWTH FOREST" GUIDED HIKE: 17 November 2007. Chimney Rock Park. 9–10:30am. This excursion will take participants off-trail and into one of the most scenic forests of Chimney Rock Park, where trees have reached ages of over 200 years and heights over 130 feet. During this "Off the Beaten Path" Guided Hike, you'll visit at least one State Champion tree and see one tree with a trunk over 13 feet in circumference. Learn what defines an old-growth forest and how it differs from most woodlands today. Recommended for all ages 12+. Moderately strenuous--only good walking shoes required. $20 includes adult Park admission, $10 for ages 6-15; $5 for Annual Passholders, $3 for Grady's Kids Club Members.
