UNITED STATES DOG AGILITY ASSOCIATION TRIAL: 1-2 December 2007. Western North Carolina Agricultural Center McGough Arena, Asheville. Dogs jump hurdles, race through tunnels and climb over A-frames at high speed. 8am-3pm. Spectators welcome. Free admission.
SANTA RAPPELS CHIMNEY ROCK: 1,8 December 2007. Chimney Rock Park. 11am–2pm. Of all the chimneys in the entire world, Santa likes ours best. In fact, it's his annual practice chimney. So bring the whole family the first or second Saturday in December and enjoy. Free with Park admission.
"SCRATCH AND SNIFF" GUIDED HIKE: 15 December 2007. Chimney Rock Park. 9–10:30am. Most of us rely too heavily on our eyes for gathering information about natural history. How often do you use your nose for identifying plants? In this program, the last of our "Off the Beaten Path" Guided Hikes, it's all about sniffing your way through the woodlands. Learn what's nice, what's not, what's edible and what's noxious. Recommended for all ages 12+. Moderately strenuous--only good walking shoes and non-stuffy noses required. $20 includes adult Park admission, $10 for ages 6-15; $5 for Annual Passholders, $3 for Grady's Kids Club Members.
